Its been like that since I had it.... maybe the wrong coolant was in it..... maybe it was never replaced.
I have seen other Irish 156's with equally dirty reservoir's.

Mine looks like that anyway, except some muck on the outside.
I don't use paraflu coolant though on the recommendation from the Alfa dealer not to bother with paraflu because to expensive and nothing special.
Plus I've head a lot of people with problem thermostats use paraflu, coincidence or not i don't know.

Mine looks so dirty you cant see the coolant anymore, I need to try what you have done. Look new. If I take the tank out will I have to flush out the whole radiator, I am not very confident under the bonnet, especially with the weather being so bloody cold.

Hope no one minds me posting these 2 pics.Found them on a floppy disc.
A pic of my plastic tank.It justs sits in a box now collecting dust.Polished stainless steel tank fabricated for the car. Also is my old turbo down pipe and my old gear stick housing.
P.S-You can see all the limescale and crud stuck to the inside of the plastic tank in the 2nd pic.
