Mornin all.
Got up and went to work as normal this morning. I fired up the beast ('00 156, 1.8 TS) and started to reverse out of the drive way, I noticed that the check engine light was staying on. I killed the engine and restarted and it had gone now in the normal time then. I pulled out onto the road and everything seemed fine, no strange noises or anything however the second I touched the brake, the light came back on, off the brakes, light goes out. This happened for the first 3 or 4 minutes of driving and then stopped!?! I only have a 10 minute drive to work anyway but seems odd?
Has anyone else had this problem? what resolved?
Cheers
D

This might be a sign of low power steering fluid.
I might be getting my lights and cars mixed up.
I'm sure though on some cars a light comes on/off when using the brakes to indicate low fluid.
I might be talking crap here.
Go check all the fluid levels. steerings, brake etc.

What do you mean check engine light? the injector symbol or engine management symbol on later models or the yellow round symbol which looks like a light bulb.

that the "blown bulb" indicator.
you most likely have a blown or loose brakes or tail light or license plate light.
The "engine management" light is a Red coloured Injector, top RH corner of the speedo.

it's the ABS warning light. Check the brake fluid and top up if necessary. If that does not cure the problem maybe the ABS system is faulty... should see the dealer to have it checked then

Call me SAD if you want, just to clarify the light you seen:
If thats it, then you have a blown bulb or loose conenction or a bulb with a intermittent filament conection.
if its a brake/tail light or reg plate bulb replace BOTH bulbs at the same time.
This light usually lights up for approx 5 seconds when the key is at the MAR position & will switch off if all bulbs are ok.

now that's thorough BB! good stuff thanks. That's the puppy alright. I just got home and had a quick look at the owners manual. and youre right... it's a blown bulb. didn't happen at all after wards so could be a loose brake bulb. I'll have a closer look tomorrow.
Kinda strange how they made the check bulbs warning symbol look like a gearbox!!!
Thanks for the help again guys!
