Hi all.

I am new on this forum and proud owner of a gorgeous 1999 fully loaded BRG 156 Selespeed.

My gears are working fine, although I find the whole system frustratingly slow...

I read post about the 4407 campaign - will definitely check it out.

2 questions:

- is there a way to improve gear changes speed?

- I was told that when your clutch needs to be changed, it has to be done by a main dealer because the system resets. Is that right?

Thanks,

Romain.

Don't know if this helps but my wife has a Renault Clio Easy which is similar in that it has a semi-automatic gearbox. Had the clutch replaced my local mechanic and he had to get the system to re-learn where the gears were by going through a sequence of gear changes with ignition on.

Hi Romain,

Some kind of jobs are really better done at a dealer, this looks like one of them... You could also inform about the gear change speed at the dealer, even though they may not tell you the whole story. It may be that you have a first generation selespeed, remember there was something with some of the cars...

It doesn't need to be done at a main dealer but it does need to be done by someone that has the Examiner system.
You need the Examiner to depressurise the accumulator on the Selespeed Actuator before they can strip it down and take the gearbox off.
Once it is all back together the Examiner is required to bleed the Selespeed system and test & recalibrate the Selespeed Actuator.

David, on the V6, should a clutch change be straightforward enough for a clutch place to do it or are we talking main dealer? I'm after worst case scenarios here. I'm wary of not using dealers or alfa experts after my timing belt incident you see. Thanks in advance

This "campaign 4407" thing. Will I need the upgrade on my 2003 model 156 TS Selespeed? Or have Alfa already incorporated that upgrade into their new cars?

I would take it to an Alfa specialist or an Alfa Main Dealer.

Comparative clutch change times:
156 V6: 6.5 hours
156 Selespeed: 7.1 hours
156 Manual: 5.1 hours

The "4407 campaign" come out mid-2001, so your 2003 Selespeed (providing it is a 2003 car ) will not need it.

Thanks David. It is a 2003 car, Clover Leaf version, with the JTS interior.
