First time I've actually seen (even a photo of) a snapped belt - and hopefully the last! Interesting to see how it had gone. These belts are very strong (when new!) and don't have a great deal of load on them turning 4 camshafts. The belt must have either weekened considerably or the load increased for some reason.

There's lots of rust of the camshaft pulleys. Is this a clue to the problem or has this occurred since?

Out of interest what mileage / age was the belt ?

51k miles, 04 plate.. and only owned for about 6 weeks

Fecking air con pipes down the side of the offside chassis leg are a PITA! There's a possibility I might have to disconnect them.
