This car is turning into a nightmare!!
A smokey engine and lack of power below 2000 revs is down to the EGR valve, or so I'm told.
The question is, where is it and what does it look like?? I'm going to try cleaning it
It's a '04 1.9 JTD 16v

I've found it now and stripped it. Full of soot and siezed. Washed it with petrol, cleaned out the manifold and WD40'd the valve. Put it back together and it runs superb!!
I also cleaned the MAF sensor of oil. Might have been part of the problem, but all done for £00. Better than the £200 plus I was quoted to replace the bits!!

For those of you not sure of it's location, I shall post a couple of pics later.
If you were to look into the engine bay, the EGR valve sits at the back of the inlet manifold to the right hand side. It is black, ribbed and with a cable connector on one end. The other end bolts to a casing on the manifold, with a pipe running from the bottom of the case and down to the exhaust manifold.
Photo's later, when it will all become obvious!!

On the 2.4 its that circular bit on the closest edge of the engine cover (bottom middle of pic), with the metal braided pipe going around the side to the air inlet:

Yes, on the 136 engine (picture above), but on the 140 engine you have to follow the metal pipes round to the back of the head.
No idea about the 150 and later engines...but would guess they share they 140 set up.
