how to slacken the tensioner:
& then open it
old V's new tensioner
old V's new idle pulley
new V's new aux belt
hope these pictures will help soneone replace their Aux belt

Thanks for that Pat, the local garage replaced the belt for me during my lunch break, only cost 20 euro all in.
Now lets see what breaks or falls off next........

I've just done mine on the V6, I wish I'd known about the PIN you can use to hold the tensioner in place!

an L shaped 4mm allen key will do the same thing.

Thats exactly what I used
Its useful for the tensioner not pinging back behind the engine mount where I couldn't get a socket on it..

BB, is that insulating foam at the bottom left of the photo, I can't work out what it's fitted around? Thought it was arb but after 2nd look it can't be that.
I presume it stops you bashing your knuckles off the black bar.

very observant of you ... i had ot look at the pic 2 or 3 times ot figure out what it is ... its a PORTABLE 12v light

Sorry about the thread resurrection but the mention of a pin to lock the tensioner in place has got my interest. I have fond memries of wedging a spanner c/w attached hand, against the inner wing of my wife's Chavalier when chaning the belt. Where does the pin go exactly?
Car is a 2.0TS.
