To gain access to the diagnostic port 1st remove this panel:
This is what the connector looks like:
To jumper pin 7 [ engine ecu ] to pin 3 [ airbag ] or pin 1 [ abs ] you need to remove this conenctor:
Using a paper-clip or 'earth' wire bridge out from 7 to 1 for ABS:
Using a paper-clip or 'earth' wire bridge out from 7 to 3 for Airbag:
Re-insert the connector & plug in a Standard KKL interface:)

My only comment:
To remove the panel (first pic) loose the steering wheel lever first and then pull the panel from the botton first. Your pic suggest the opposite, but I know you didn't mean it.
Re-install it backwards.
Doing this will avoid damage to the panel clips and keep it always secure in place.

Can both bridges be left in place??-I have been considering moving the diag plug and converting it to a USB in below the ashtray

not that i now of as the Airbag & ABS use the same baud rates, different addressing though.
