got an 156 selespeed replaced engine and gearbob two pumps starter motor all in 12 months.
its a drain on my finances but fjust love the car

I had my 156 for about 4 years and did about 45k in it.
Only let me down once - the Throttle sensor failed - £20 part. We had just left West Mids Safari Park - No kidding - 15 mins earlier and we would have been in the Lions Pen!!! 
The 159 that followed I only had for a year and did 10k with no probs at all......

Had my GT 2.0 litre jts for 18 months, now on 36,000 miles no major problems but lets see after the service next week
