ok guys odd one here
I have a 2009 147 selespeed which drives fine except the odd drop into N when coasting which I have got used to
problem on first start in the morning pump primes put the key in and get selespeed system failure and the picture of a gearbox but the car drives fine and the warning goes after about 30 seconds
it has been to the local specialist who has re calibrated the system and found no fault codes
any ideas please?
its not a problem until it breaks down ]

Hi,

There are a number of ways the selespeed system can fail without setting fault codes.
I'm guessing your specialist has checked fluid level and hydraulic pressure. You can use Multiecuscan to check this.
Most of the faults I've encountered have been caused by electrical problems with the big 20 pin connector; pin fitment becomes slack so you get intermitent contact on some pins and the ecu goes into safety mode. It sounds like you may have a similar problem, or maybe condensation inside the connector when sat overnight, which might suggest the weather sealing is perished.
The fix on both my selespeeds was to dismantle the connector and replace all the pins, both male and female, although it was only the female side that were really at fault, and also the weather sealing. This is very fiddly and time consuming.

It connects the selespeed actuator wiring loom to the main wiring loom. Usually clipped to the battery tray above the gearbox underneath the air intake pipe. If you follow the wiring loom up from the actator you will find it.
